PlayStation Vue vs. Sling TV: Streaming live TV compared - CNET
Vue's channel selection is far superior both in quantity and quality or popularity, and it doesn't have most of the pesky caveats of Sling, such as an inability to pause, skip commercials or stream to more than one device at the same time.
In short, Vue is a lot more like a traditional cable TV subscription with all the fixings, while Sling is very much stripped-down and closer to the ideal of a la carte TV -- albeit "live only" for the most part.
We haven't reviewed Vue yet but we know the basic facts about the service and, after our first in-person demo, we can say enough to make some pretty in-depth comparisons. Here they are.
Price, availability and features
Sling TV is much cheaper, available in more places, and it works with more devices. It also offers a more flexible and affordable array of step-up channels.
PlayStation Vue is easily the winner in terms of features, with a full-function "cloud DVR," fewer per-channel rights issues, and -- the biggie -- the ability to stream to multiple devices on the same account. It also beats Sling handily in sheer number of channels.
A couple of the items above bear expansion. A Sling TV subscription still only entitles you to use one "TV Everywhere" app, Watch ESPN, although access to others like Watch Disney and Disney Junior are "coming soon." Meanwhile Sony says a Vue subscription will allow you to authenticate ten TV Everywhere apps at launch today--including NCAA March Madness, Watch TBS, Watch Cartoon Network and Fox News Channel--with another 35 available "shortly after launch."
Sony says the iPad app is coming "very soon"and will allow streaming over both cellular networks (if your iPad is compatible) as well as Wi-Fi, but it won't--at least at first--allow downloads for offline viewing.
When we asked Eric Lampel, Vice President of Sony Network Entertainment, he declined to mention any other devices by name. So for now, PlayStation Vue TV...Source: www.cnet.com
