A day trip, a not very well little one and the beginning of the end...
With the end of the school year fast approaching here, the kids have a more afterschool things going on and last Wednesday was no exception. In the evening, it was the eldest's summer concert with her school choir, so of course the whole family went to go and watch. Despite it, as all school concerts do, having some, shall we say, interesting moments it was actually really good. You could tell just how hard all the kids worked, to get it just right and the highlight was definitely this years' school leavers having their own little take over at the end. Fast forward to Friday and it was finally the weekend, there was an end of year BBQ with the primary school so for once there was no hockey run and I was free! With the weather still being ridiculously warm, it was another opportunity to go swimming that I couldn't miss, so off I went to the swimming pool; where I met Lotte and Kat. Then for the evening, as her host family were away, we headed back to Lotte's for some homemade Italian pizza, Dutch pancakes and a movie night. The evening was cut short though with the appearance of one of those fantastic thunderstorms we get here on the continent. As both Chiara and I were on our bikes, a game of beat the storm ensued, with me making it home minutes before the heavens opened and the worst storm I've seen in my life kicked off. It went on for hours and hours, something I wasn't exactly happy about as I'm far from keen on thunder and lightning. Friday night not being such a late one was probably a good idea however, as, on Saturday morning, Chiara, Lotte and I went to Schwetzingen; for one last little trip. We'd seen the town before, but in the dark, when we were on our way home from Karlsruhe a few months ago; so it was nice to see it properly and this time we also went to look around the "Schlossgarten" (palace garden), which is famous for being one of the most beautiful in Germany. Finding something to do on Sunday turned out to be a bit of a struggle this... Source: A Year in Mannheim
